Pick your shoes first: the flare-length method

Flare vs bootcut in two lines
A flare opens sharply below the knee into a wide hem that nearly hides the shoe. A bootcut opens gently, just enough for a boot. The full side-by-side lives on our bootcut vs flare comparison.
How wide a flare?
Our Flare is drafted to the sweep shown in the spec table. If you have a pair whose hem width you love, measure its leg opening flat and add it to your order, or describe the look in the notes for your tailor: softer, or full 70s bell. We'll confirm with you before cutting if it changes the pattern.
Power Stretch (10 oz, 4% elastane) keeps the thigh and knee smooth so the sweep below does the talking. A high or ultra-high rise lengthens the whole line.
Finish the hem to suit: a clean regular hem for evenings, or raw and frayed for a softer, lived-in 70s look.

Questions and answers
How long should flare jeans be?
In the shoes you'll wear, the hem should sit about 1/4 to 1/2 inch off the floor at the back. Measure your inseam wearing those shoes and we cut to it.
Do flare jeans make you look shorter?
A flare that stops short does. One long enough to cover most of the shoe, with a high rise, makes the leg look longer, which is why the length matters so much.
I wear flats and heels. Can one pair of flares work for both?
Not perfectly. Order for the shoe you'll wear most, or order a second pair with a flat-shoe inseam; your measurements are saved, so the reorder uses the same pattern.
Which fabric is best for flare jeans?

Can tall women get flares that actually reach the floor?
