How to tell if you're a bottom hourglass
- Hips a few inches larger than your bust (roughly 3–10 inches).
- Waist clearly smaller than your hips, by about 9 inches or more.
- The hip curve is smooth and rounded rather than a sudden shelf just below the waist (that shelf points to a spoon shape).
- Your fullness sits at the seat and upper thigh; your bust is a size or two smaller than your hips.
- Rules of thumb, not a diagnosis: most bodies sit between two shapes, and that is completely normal.
Three styles that suit a bottom hourglass

Bootcut
Fitted through the thigh, a small kick at the hem that balances the hip. Measure your inseam in the shoes or boots you'll wear. Bootcut jeans, $109.

Flare
A stronger opening from the knee: the widest hem in the range of fitted styles. Add your thigh measurement at the fullest point. Flare jeans, $119.

Wide Leg
Falls from the fullest part of your hip, so the leg skims rather than clings. A high rise marks the waist. Wide leg jeans, $119.
What to look for in jeans for a bottom hourglass
| Feature | Why it works | Where to find it |
|---|---|---|
| Seat cut to your hip | Room where you need it, so the pockets lie flat | Hip measurement at the fullest point |
| Thigh as its own number | Upper thighs often carry the most; a size chart only guesses | Thigh measurement on every style |
| A leg that widens below the knee | Echoes the hip and evens out the silhouette | Bootcut, Flare, Wide Leg |
| High rise | Sits at your waist, the narrowest point | Choose High in the step-by-step builder |
| Darker wash on the leg | Keeps attention on the overall line | Dark or Raw Indigo |

Why off-the-rack jeans make you choose
A standard pattern links waist, seat and thigh in fixed steps. With a bottom hourglass, buying for your hips leaves the waist loose; buying for your waist means the seat strains. Made to measure drops the link: we cut the waist to your waist, the seat to your hips and the thigh to your thigh. If the back of a waistband always gaps, read about curvy jeans with no waist gap.
When another style may suit you better

A skinny can work, but it narrows at the ankle and makes the hip the widest point of the outfit.
Try Skinny insteadVery low rises tend to slip on a fuller seat; mid or high is more comfortable.
From your numbers to your door
Choose a style above and add your measurements in the step-by-step builder: about 5 minutes (how to measure). A pattern maker checks them within 1 working day, then your pair is made in our own workshop in 10–15 working days and covered by the Fit Guarantee: a free remake of your first pair in each fit.

Questions and answers
What is a bottom hourglass body shape?
An hourglass with hips a little fuller than the bust: the waist is still clearly defined.
What's the difference between a bottom hourglass and a pear?
Both have hips wider than the bust, but a bottom hourglass has a much more defined waist. A pear shape has a softer waist and more width through the thighs.
Which jeans are best for a bottom hourglass?
Bootcut, flare and wide leg, all in a mid or high rise and cut to your seat and thigh.
Do I need stretch in my jeans for a bottom hourglass?
Not necessarily. Stretch is comfortable when you sit, but a rigid denim cut to your real hip measurement fits well too, because the room is drafted in.
