Petite Jeans, Proportioned for Your Height

Petite jeans should be shorter in more than the leg. Ours are cut to your inseam, your hips and the rise you choose, so a waistband doesn't climb to your ribs and a flare keeps its sweep. They're for anyone who has hemmed every pair they own and still felt swamped.

        What hemming can't fix

        • The waistband reaches your ribs

The rise was drafted for a taller torso

Choose a mid or high rise, or give us the front and back rise of a pair that sits right

        • A flare or bootcut loses its shape

Hemming cuts the width off the bottom of the leg

The leg is cut at your length, so the sweep is kept

        • Knees bag below your actual knee

The knee is placed for a longer leg

Add your knee measurement and describe it in the notes for your tailor

        • Back pockets sit low on the seat

Pocket position is set for a larger size

Tell us in the notes; we'll confirm before cutting

        Measuring a petite inseam

        1. Wear the shoes you'll pair the jeans with most: flats and heels need different lengths.
        2. Stand straight and have someone measure from the crotch seam to where you want the hem.
        3. Ankle-length styles (Skinny, Mom): stop at the ankle bone.
        4. Flares: stop about 1/4 to 1/2 inch above the floor in your heels.
        5. Have one pair that's the right length? Measure its inseam flat instead.
        6. More detail in our measuring guide.

Petite and curvy, petite and plus

Petite lines usually shrink everything at once: shorter leg, smaller hips. If you're short with fuller hips, or short with a larger waist, that's where off-the-rack gives up. We take each measurement separately, so a short inseam and a 50" waist is just another order. See curvy jeans with no waist gap and plus size jeans.

Where to measure for petite jeans

Tap a number. A soft tape and five minutes is all it takes. Full method in the measuring guide.

        1. Waist Where you want the waistband to sit, tape level all the way round.
        2. Hips / seat Around the fullest part of your seat, feet together.
        3. Back rise Optional: from the crotch seam up to the top of the back waistband of a pair that doesn't gap.
        4. Thigh Around the fullest part of one thigh, just below the crotch.
        5. Inseam From the crotch down the inside leg to where you want the hem, in the shoes you'll wear.

We check your numbers before we cut

Copy your best-fitting jeans laid flat (easiest) or measure yourself with a soft tape. Height and weight are optional, as a cross-check.

Within 1 working day a pattern maker compares every measurement with the others and with your height and weight, and emails you before cutting if anything looks unusual.

        Questions and answers

        What height counts as petite?

Most brands use 5'4" and under. We don't use a height band at all: you give us your inseam and height, and the jeans are cut to them.

Is a petite jean just a shorter regular jean?

Not when it's done properly. Length is one fix; the rise and where the width falls on the leg matter just as much.

What rise should I choose if I'm short-waisted?

Usually mid or high rather than ultra high. Best of all, measure the front and back rise of a pair that sits right and add them to your order.

Can I get petite skinny jeans that don't bunch at the ankle?

Yes. The bunching comes from extra length, and we cut the inseam to yours, so the hem ends where you asked.

Can you copy the one pair that fits me properly?

Yes. Lay it flat, measure it with our guide, and order with "copy my best-fitting jeans". Add anything you'd change in the notes for your tailor.

Do petite jeans cost less, or more?

Neither: every size is the same price, from $109 ($119 for Flare, Wide Leg and Barrel).
