A trapezoid has options
The trapezoid sits between a rectangle and an inverted triangle: a little broader at the shoulder, with hips and waist in an easy ratio. Because nothing is extreme, the cut is a style choice more than a fix.
The detail that matters most is length. A balanced frame looks its best when the jeans end in the right place, so measure your inseam with the shoes you wear most.

How to tell if you're a trapezoid
- Shoulders slightly wider than your hips, but not dramatically.
- Bust and hips within a few inches of each other.
- Waist moderately defined: smaller than your bust and hips, but not by much more than 7–9 inches.
- Standard sizes fit you reasonably well in the hip; length and rise are the usual issues.
- Rules of thumb, not a diagnosis: most bodies sit between two shapes, and that is completely normal.
Three styles that suit a trapezoid

Straight
The cleanest line for a balanced frame, with tops in or out. Choose your rise and fit preference. Straight leg jeans, $109.

Skinny
Close to the leg, which suits slimmer hips. Pair with a fuller top or a jacket. Choose Comfort or Power Stretch. Skinny jeans, $109.

Flare
Adds a little width at the hem to echo the shoulders. Measure your inseam in the shoes you'll wear so the flare grazes the floor. Flare jeans, $119.
What to look for in jeans for a trapezoid
| Feature | Why it works | Where to find it |
|---|---|---|
| Inseam to your shoes | A balanced frame shows most in the length | Inseam measured in your usual shoes |
| Rise you like | No rise is off limits; choose by comfort and the tops you wear | Low, Mid, High or Ultra High |
| Hem finish | A raw or cuffed hem changes the look without changing the fit | Raw/frayed, cuffed or chain-stitch (+$10) |
| A touch of width below | Echoes slightly broader shoulders | Flare |
| Wash | Lighter washes add presence to the lower half | Mid, Light or Bleached (+$5) |

Where made to measure still helps
Even when a size almost fits, the rise and length rarely match. We cut the inseam to your measurement, let you choose the rise, and set the waist and hips from separate numbers, so the jeans fit without a trip to the tailor. If you have a pair you love, copy it measured flat.
When another style may suit you better

A very full wide leg can look heavy on a slim lower half; if you want one, choose High rise.
Try Wide Leg instead
From your numbers to your door
Choose a style above and add your measurements in the step-by-step builder: about 5 minutes (how to measure). A pattern maker checks them within 1 working day, then your pair is made in our own workshop in 10–15 working days and covered by the Fit Guarantee: a free remake of your first pair in each fit.

Questions and answers
What is a trapezoid body shape for women?
A balanced shape with shoulders slightly wider than the hips and a moderately defined waist. Some stylists use the term more often for men, but it describes many women too.
What jeans suit a trapezoid shape?
Most cuts do. Straight, skinny and flare are the easiest, with the inseam cut for your shoes.
Is a trapezoid the same as an inverted triangle?
Close, but milder: an inverted triangle has shoulders and bust much wider than the hips.
Do I need custom jeans if standard sizes almost fit?
Not always. Custom helps most with the rise and length, the two things a size label never tells you.
