Full, ankle or cropped: where the hem lands
| Length | Where it ends | Measure your inseam to | Good with |
|---|---|---|---|
| Full length | Just covers the top of the shoe, with a slight break | The point where the hem touches your shoe, wearing that shoe | Boots, loafers, low heels |
| Ankle | On the ankle bone | Your ankle bone, barefoot or in flats | Sneakers, ballet flats |
| Cropped | A little above the ankle bone, showing some skin | Where you want the hem, a little above the ankle bone | Sandals, mules, heels |
Pick the hem finish to match: regular, raw and frayed, cuffed, or chain-stitch (+$10). On a cuffed hem, tell us the finished length you want in the notes for your tailor.
Slim straight, straight, relaxed straight: one name, three cuts

Slim straight
Narrows slightly below the knee. If that's the one you love, choose "copy my best-fitting jeans" and give us its knee and leg-opening measurements.

Straight
Even from the knee to the hem. This is how our Straight is drafted, shown in the spec table above.

Relaxed straight
More room through the seat and thigh. Choose Roomy as your fit preference, or copy a looser pair you already own.

Rigid or stretch?
Classic Rigid (13 oz, 100% cotton) is the vintage straight: firm on day one, then it softens and takes on your creases. Because it has no give, a custom waist matters more here than anywhere.
Comfort Stretch (11 oz, 2% elastane) is comfortable from the first wear and keeps a clean line. For a raw, unwashed look that fades with you, there's Japanese-style Selvedge, 14 oz (+$40).
When not to choose straight

Your calves are much fuller than your ankles and you wear boots: a bootcut opening sits better.
Try Bootcut instead
You want real volume and swing from the hip down.
Try Wide Leg instead
You want a high waist with a tapered ankle.
Try Mom instead

We check your numbers before we cut
Copy your best-fitting jeans laid flat (easiest) or measure yourself with a soft tape. Height and weight are optional, as a cross-check.
Within 1 working day a pattern maker compares every measurement with the others and with your height and weight, and emails you before cutting if anything looks unusual.

Questions and answers
What inseam do I need for ankle-length straight jeans?
Measure from the crotch seam down the inside of your leg to your ankle bone. That number is your inseam; we cut the leg to it, so there's no hemming.
Are straight leg jeans good for curvy hips?
Yes, when the waist and hips are cut separately, which is how we make every pair. Our page on curvy jeans with no waist gap covers the details.
Do you make plus size straight leg jeans?
Yes, in waists up to 70" at the same price. See plus size jeans for how we draft larger sizes.
Will rigid straight jeans loosen up?
100% cotton denim gives a little at the waist and knees as you wear it. If you're unsure, choose Regular rather than Snug, or pick Comfort Stretch.
Can I get straight leg jeans long enough for heels?
Yes. Measure your inseam wearing the heels, and our tall women's jeans page covers the longest lengths.
Can I get a button fly on straight leg jeans?
Yes, for $10 more, and it suits a rigid vintage straight especially well. You can also pick the thread: classic gold, tonal, or contrast white.
