Balance from the hem up
With a top hourglass, the eye goes to the shoulders and bust first. Jeans can even that out by giving the lower half a little more presence: a leg that falls straight from the hip or opens out toward the hem. The waist is your anchor, so a high rise that sits right at it does a lot of the work.
Your hips are the narrower half, which also means a generous seat is not what you need. A seat cut to your real hip keeps the back neat while the leg adds the width.

How to tell if you're a top hourglass
- Bust a few inches larger than your hips (roughly 1–10 inches).
- Waist clearly smaller than your bust, by about 9 inches or more.
- Shoulders look slightly wider than your hips.
- Tops are often a size up from your jeans.
- Rules of thumb, not a diagnosis: most bodies sit between two shapes, and that is completely normal.
Three styles that suit a top hourglass

Straight
An even line from hip to hem adds steady width below the knee. Measure your hips at the fullest point so the seat is close but easy. Straight leg jeans, $109.

Wide Leg
The most volume below, matched to the volume above. A high rise keeps the waist defined. Wide leg jeans, $119.

Flare
Fitted to the knee, then opening out: it shows your legs and balances your shoulders. Measure your inseam in your usual heels or boots. Flare jeans, $119.
What to look for in jeans for a top hourglass
| Feature | Why it works | Where to find it |
|---|---|---|
| High rise | Meets your defined waist and lengthens the leg | Choose High or Ultra High |
| Width below the knee | Balances a fuller upper body | Wide Leg, Flare |
| A neat seat | Your hips are the narrower half; extra fabric there just bags | Hip measurement plus Snug or Regular fit preference |
| Lighter wash or details | Draws the eye down | Mid or Light wash, contrast white thread |
| Hem to your shoes | Wide and flared legs look best grazing the shoe | Inseam measured in the shoes you'll wear |

Where made to measure helps
Off the rack, a jean that fits your waist may be roomy at the seat, because the pattern expects fuller hips. We cut waist and hips separately, so the seat follows you. Choose the rise and the inseam, and the leg opens where you want it.
When another style may suit you better

A very tight skinny makes the legs the narrowest point and the shoulders the widest. If you love a close fit, try a straight leg in a Snug fit.
Try Straight instead
From your numbers to your door
Choose a style above and add your measurements in the step-by-step builder: about 5 minutes (how to measure). A pattern maker checks them within 1 working day, then your pair is made in our own workshop in 10–15 working days and covered by the Fit Guarantee: a free remake of your first pair in each fit.

Questions and answers
What jeans suit a top hourglass shape?
Straight, wide leg and flare jeans in a high rise: they add a little width below and keep the waist defined.
Is a top hourglass the same as an inverted triangle?
No. Both have a fuller upper body, but a top hourglass has a clearly defined waist. An inverted triangle is straighter from shoulder to hip.
Should I wear high-waisted jeans with a big bust?
Often, yes: the waistband marks the narrowest point. Pair them with a top that fits your shoulders so the waist stays visible.
Which wash works best for a top hourglass?
Mid and light washes draw attention to the leg; dark washes are calm and work with anything. Either is fine.
