A close fit lives or dies at the hip-to-waist line
A skinny jean has nowhere to hide. If the pattern assumes slimmer hips than yours, the seat pulls and the pockets splay; if it assumes a fuller seat, the waistband stands off your back. We cut the waist to your waist and the hips to your hips, then add the ease that suits the fabric you chose.
Choose Snug, Regular or Roomy as your fit preference. Snug is the classic second-skin skinny; Regular keeps it close with a little more ease through the thigh.
Stretch decides the skinny
| Fabric | How it feels | Choose it for |
|---|---|---|
| Power Stretch, 10 oz, 4% elastane | The most give in the range; moves with you when you sit, squat or climb stairs | The closest, smoothest skinny |
| Comfort Stretch, 11 oz, 2% elastane | Close, with a little more body and a more denim-like hand | An everyday skinny that looks like jeans, not leggings |
| Soft Cotton Stretch, 11.5 oz (+$15) | A soft, mid-weight stretch denim | A close fit with a different fibre story |
| Classic Rigid, 13 oz, 100% cotton | No give at all | Rarely right for skinny. If you love rigid denim, look at the Straight instead |

The try-on check (before the first wash)
- Sit down: the back of the waistband should stay against your back, not open into a gap.
- Look at the front of the thighs: no horizontal pull lines running towards the crotch.
- Bend your knee: the fabric should follow it, not pool behind it when you straighten up.
- Check the back pockets: they should lie flat, not splay outward.
- Check the hem: it should end where you ordered it, at the ankle bone or with one soft stack.

When not to choose skinny

You want the jeans to sit over boots rather than tuck in. A gentle kick suits you better.
Try Bootcut instead
You'd like an even, easy line from the knee down.
Try Straight insteadYour calves are much fuller than your ankles. Add your knee measurement and describe your calves in the notes for your tailor, or consider the Straight.

You want rigid, vintage-feel denim with a relaxed hip.
Try Mom instead

We check your numbers before we cut
Copy your best-fitting jeans laid flat (easiest) or measure yourself with a soft tape. Height and weight are optional, as a cross-check.
Within 1 working day a pattern maker compares every measurement with the others and with your height and weight, and emails you before cutting if anything looks unusual.

Questions and answers
Are skinny jeans still worn?
Fashion coverage this year has been talking about skinny jeans again, often a little less tight than a decade ago. Custom lets you decide how close yours sit: Snug, Regular or Roomy, in the stretch you prefer.
How tight should skinny jeans feel?
Close everywhere but never restrictive: you should be able to sit and crouch without the waistband digging in, and the fabric shouldn't wrinkle sideways across the thighs.
Will my skinny jeans bag at the knees?
All stretch denim relaxes a little with wear. For the closest, smoothest result choose Power Stretch with a Snug fit preference, and give us your knee measurement.
Can I get skinny jeans for my petite height?
Yes. The inseam is cut to your measurement, and our petite jeans page explains how rise and length are set for shorter legs.
What rise works best for skinny jeans?
High rise is the most versatile with a close leg; mid rise is easier for sitting all day. Low is available if you prefer the waistband on your hips.
