The fit ruler: six cuts side by side
Every brand uses the same six words, and they rarely mean the same thing. So here are ours as numbers. The ruler below shows each fit on a 32" waist, and three columns do most of the talking: thigh, knee and leg opening.
Read it left to right. Thigh is how much room you get up top. Knee is where the leg starts to change shape. Leg opening is what lands on your shoe: narrow suits trainers and Chelsea boots, wide clears a western boot. Your own pair won't match these figures exactly, and that's the point: we scale every measurement from your body, then add ease for the fit and fabric you choose.
The fits side by side
| Fit | Shape | Thigh | Knee | Leg opening | Price |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Skinny | Close all the way down | 21" | 14" | 12.5" | $109 |
| Slim | Trim, gentle taper below the knee | 22.5" | 15.5" | 14" | $109 |
| Straight | Straight from hip to hem | 24" | 17" | 16" | $109 |
| Relaxed | Roomy seat and thigh, straight leg | 26" | 18.5" | 17.5" | $109 |
| Athletic Taper | Full thigh, strong taper to the ankle | 25" | 16" | 13.5" | $119 |
| Bootcut | Slim to the knee, opens over boots | 23.5" | 16.5" | 18.5" | $109 |
Typical finished measurements for a 32" waist, measured around. Every pair is cut from your own numbers.
Which fit suits your build?
| If this sounds like you | Start with | Read more |
|---|---|---|
| Your thighs fit, but the waist gaps at the back | Athletic Taper or Relaxed | Jeans for big thighs |
| Even "long" sizes end above your ankle | Any fit, inseam up to 40" | Tall men's jeans |
| You need a bigger waist and room in the seat | Relaxed, Straight or Bootcut | Big and tall jeans |
| Hemmed jeans always look wide at your ankle | Slim or Skinny | Jeans for shorter men |
| You wear western boots most days | Bootcut | Bootcut jeans |
| You want one pair that goes with everything | Straight | Straight leg jeans |
Choose your denim by what you do in it
| Fabric | Weight and stretch | Good for |
|---|---|---|
| Comfort Stretch | 11 oz, 2% elastane | Everyday wear and desk days, in any fit |
| Power Stretch | 10 oz, 4% elastane | Strong legs, cycling, crouching; a natural match for Athletic Taper and Skinny |
| Classic Rigid | 13 oz, 100% cotton | A traditional pair you break in; Straight and Bootcut |
| Summer Lightweight | 8.5 oz | Hot weather and travel |
| Soft Cotton Stretch (+$15) | 11.5 oz | Soft, everyday stretch |
| Japanese-style Selvedge (+$40) | 14 oz, raw | Denim that fades to the way you wear it; Straight and Slim |
Rigid and raw denim don't give like stretch, so we add more ease to the pattern when you choose them.

Get one pair right, then reorder it
The first pair is where the work happens. You give us your numbers, we check them within one working day and email you before cutting if anything looks unusual. If the fit still isn't right, the Fit Guarantee covers your first pair in each fit.
After that it gets easy. Your pattern is saved, so the next pair can be raw selvedge with a button fly, or black stretch with a chain-stitch hem and your initials inside the waistband, and it fits the same way.
How your pair is made
1Your numbers, checked
Within 1 working day a pattern maker reviews your measurements and emails you if anything looks unusual.
2Cut for one person
Your pair is cut from your own measurements in our workshop.
3Sewn and topstitched
Classic gold, tonal or contrast white thread, and a chain-stitch hem if you choose it.
4On its way to you
Made in 10–15 working days, then express tracked delivery in 3–7, with US duties included.

We check your numbers before we cut
Copy your best-fitting jeans laid flat (easiest) or measure yourself with a soft tape. Height and weight are optional, as a cross-check.
Within 1 working day a pattern maker compares every measurement with the others and with your height and weight, and emails you before cutting if anything looks unusual.

Questions and answers
Which men's fit should I start with?
If you're unsure, start with Straight: it's the easiest fit to judge and the simplest to reorder. Go Slim or Skinny for a trimmer leg, Relaxed for more room, Athletic Taper if your thighs are big for your waist, and Bootcut if you live in boots.
Can I order a 30" waist with a 36" inseam?
Yes. Waist, seat, thigh and inseam are separate measurements, so any combination works, with inseams up to 40".
Do bigger waists or longer legs cost more?
No. Every waist from 24" to 70" and every inseam is the same price: from $109, or $119 for Athletic Taper.
I've never measured for jeans. What's the easiest way?
Lay your best-fitting pair flat and measure that; our measuring guides show where. Add your height and weight too if you like. Either way we check the numbers before cutting.
How long until my jeans arrive?
Each pair is made in 10–15 working days (rush: 5–7 working days for $35), then express tracked delivery takes 3–7 working days. US import duties are included in the price.
