Curvy Jeans With No Waist Gap

Curvy jeans with no waist gap are cut from two numbers most brands treat as one: your waist and your hips. If you always buy for your hips and live with a gap at the back, or buy for your waist and can't sit down, we cut each to its own measurement, plus your thigh.

Curvy Jeans – No Waist Gap: Skinny jeans worn on a model

Why the waist gaps (and why it isn't your body's fault)

Ready-made jeans are graded from one fit model with one fixed difference between waist and hips. Some curvy lines simply add a fixed allowance at the hip and thigh. If your difference is bigger, or smaller, you're still in between sizes.

We don't use an offset. You give us your waist, hips and thigh, and we cut to your actual difference, whatever it is.

Diagnose the gap: symptom, cause, fix

          • Gap at the back of the waistband

The waist was drafted larger than yours to fit your seat

We cut the waist to your waist measurement and the seat to your hips, separately

          • Fits your hips, loose at the waist all round

You sized up for your hips

Same fix, with no sizing up: the hips get the room, the waist doesn't

          • Tight across the thighs, loose at the waist

Thigh room is tied to the size, not to you

Your thigh is a required measurement, cut to its own number

          • Waistband rolls or digs when you sit

The rise is too low for your shape

Choose High or Ultra High, or give us the front and back rise of a pair that stays put

          • Fits in the morning, gaps by afternoon

Low-stretch fabric giving out at the waist

Choose Snug as your fit preference, or Comfort Stretch instead of Power Stretch

          Where to measure for curves

Tap a number. A soft tape and five minutes is all it takes. Full method in the measuring guide.

          1. Waist Where you want the waistband to sit, tape level all the way round.
          2. Hips / seat Around the fullest part of your seat, feet together.
          3. Back rise Optional: from the crotch seam up to the top of the back waistband of a pair that doesn't gap.
          4. Thigh Around the fullest part of one thigh, just below the crotch.
          5. Inseam From the crotch down the inside leg to where you want the hem, in the shoes you'll wear.

          Big thighs, small waist

Same problem, different place. Athletic thighs need room through the upper leg without a waistband that stands off your back. Because thigh and waist are separate measurements, we cut each to size. Mom gives the most thigh room of the four fits above, then Straight.

And if a ready-made curvy line already fits you perfectly, keep buying it. Custom earns its price when nothing on the rack does.

We check your numbers before we cut

Copy your best-fitting jeans laid flat (easiest) or measure yourself with a soft tape. Height and weight are optional, as a cross-check.

Within 1 working day a pattern maker compares every measurement with the others and with your height and weight, and emails you before cutting if anything looks unusual.

          Questions and answers

What counts as curvy for jeans?

There's no agreed number; brands use different waist-to-hip differences. If your jeans fit your hips but gap at the waist, you're curvy as far as jeans are concerned.

Should I size up for my hips and wear a belt?

That's the usual workaround, and it bunches fabric at the back. Cutting the waist and hips separately removes the need for a belt.

Which stretch is best for curvy jeans?

Comfort Stretch (2% elastane) for everyday wear; Power Stretch (4%) for the closest fit. Choose Snug if your current jeans loosen during the day.

Is curvy the same as plus size?

No. Curvy is about proportion, at any size; plus size is about the size range. If you need both, see plus size jeans.

Can you fix the gap in jeans I already own?

We make new pairs rather than alter, but we can copy your best pair and correct the gap: measure it flat and tell us how much it gaps in the notes.
