Comfortable Jeans for an Endomorph Build

An endomorph build is wider and rounder, often with a fuller midsection and a solid seat and thighs. The jeans that feel best have a waistband that sits where you want it and room through the seat: Relaxed or Straight for men, Straight or Wide Leg for women, every waist size at the same price.

Jeans for an Endomorph Body Type: Straight jeans worn on a model

Comfort first, then shape

Endomorph is the third type in the ectomorph-mesomorph-endomorph framework from the 1940s. Like the others it's a loose description, and most people are a mix, but it's a useful shorthand for a rounder, sturdier build.

With jeans, the question is usually where the waistband goes. Too low and it slides under the midsection; too high in the wrong cut and it digs in when you sit. You choose the rise, and we cut the front and back to your measurements.

Four styles that work on a rounder build

  • Men's Relaxed Fit Jeans

    Men's Relaxed

Relaxed fit puts the room in the seat and thigh, not a baggy waist. Measure your waist where you'll wear the waistband, then choose a mid or high rise.

  • Men's Straight Leg Jeans

    Men's Straight

Straight leg for a neater line if your legs are slimmer than your middle. Add your front rise if you know it; it decides how the front sits.

  • Women's Straight Leg Jeans

    Women's Straight

A straight leg in a high rise sits comfortably above or below the fullest point of your middle, your choice. Say which in the notes.

  • Women's Wide Leg Jeans

    Women's Wide Leg

Wide leg jeans fall from the hip in one easy line and feel cool and roomy. Measure hips at the fullest point, which may be higher than you think.

Jeans for an Endomorph Body Type: Relaxed jeans worn on a model

Is this your build? (rules of thumb)

  1. Your waist is about the same as, or larger than, your chest or bust.
  2. Your hips and thighs are solid, and your shoulders are moderate to broad.
  3. Jeans that fit your hips feel tight at the waist when you sit.
  4. The back waistband dips or the front rolls over after an hour of wear.
  5. Your legs may be slimmer than your middle, which makes most "relaxed" fits look baggy below the knee.

When to choose a different cut

  • Low rise tends to slide under a fuller midsection. A mid or high rise stays put.

  • Skinny legs on a rounder build can look out of balance with the top half; Straight is the easy swap.

    Try Straight instead

From your numbers to your door

Choose a style above and add your measurements in the step-by-step builder: about 5 minutes (how to measure). A pattern maker checks them within 1 working day, then your pair is made in our own workshop in 10–15 working days and covered by the Fit Guarantee: a free remake of your first pair in each fit.

Questions and answers

What jeans are best for an endomorph body type?

Straight or relaxed for men, straight or wide leg for women, with a mid or high rise and a little stretch. Above all, a waist cut to your own measurement.

Do larger sizes cost more?

No. Every waist from 24" to 70" is the same price, from $109.

Is endomorph the same as plus size?

No. Endomorph describes a build, not a size, and people of many sizes have one. If you usually shop plus sizes, our plus size jeans and big and tall jeans pages go deeper.

How do I stop my jeans sliding down at the back?

Choose a mid or high rise and measure your waist where the waistband will sit. If it still happens, tell us in the notes for your tailor and add your back rise in the optional measurements.

What if my measurements change?

Your pattern is saved, so you can update the numbers for your next pair and keep everything else.
