Close, not tight: how we work out the squeeze
Ready-made skinny jeans are graded from the waist down. Order a 32 and you get the thigh someone decided a 32 should have. If your legs are bigger than that, your only option is a size up and a waist that gaps.
We start from your thigh at its fullest point, then add ease for the fabric. Power Stretch can sit closest, Comfort Stretch gets a touch more, and Classic Rigid needs the most, because cotton without elastane doesn't give. Pick Snug, Regular or Roomy and we fine-tune from there.
Which fabric for skinny jeans?
| Fabric | How close it can sit | Worth knowing |
|---|---|---|
| Power Stretch, 10 oz, 4% elastane | Closest | The most give for strong thighs and crouching |
| Comfort Stretch, 11 oz, 2% elastane | Close | The everyday choice, with a little more structure |
| Classic Rigid, 13 oz, 100% cotton | Close, with extra ease | Stiff at first, softens as you wear it |
| Japanese-style Selvedge, 14 oz raw (+$40) | We'd steer you elsewhere | Heavy raw denim and a skinny leg fight each other; it shines on a straight leg |
When not to choose skinny

Your thighs are much bigger than your knees and calves. Athletic Taper keeps the narrow ankle and gives you room up top.
Try Athletic Taper instead
You want close, but not clinging: our Slim has more thigh room and a wider hem.
Try Slim instead
You wear western boots. A skinny opening won't go over the shaft.
Try Bootcut instead

Length: no stack, no tailor
Skinny jeans look best with little or no fabric piling up at the ankle. Measure your inseam in the shoes you'll wear most, or copy it from a pair you already like; our measuring guides show both. Shorter legs? Read why we cut jeans for shorter men to length instead of hemming them.

We check your numbers before we cut
Copy your best-fitting jeans laid flat (easiest) or measure yourself with a soft tape. Height and weight are optional, as a cross-check.
Within 1 working day a pattern maker compares every measurement with the others and with your height and weight, and emails you before cutting if anything looks unusual.

Questions and answers
Are skinny jeans still in style for men?
They're no longer the default, but a cleaner, less sprayed-on skinny is still widely worn. That's taste, not a forecast; what matters more is that yours fit, and ours are cut with ease worked out from your own thigh.
Can guys with big thighs wear skinny jeans?
Yes, in Power Stretch and with your real thigh measurement. If you'd rather have room up top and keep the slim ankle, jeans for big thighs explains the options.
Is skinny tighter than slim?
Yes. Skinny follows the leg closely all the way down; slim leaves more room in the thigh and finishes wider. The side-by-side comparison is on our slim fit page.
Will my skinny jeans loosen with wear?
Stretch denim eases a little as you wear it. If you like them very close, choose a stretch fabric with the Regular preference rather than Snug, so they settle into the fit instead of past it.
Can I get skinny jeans in black?
Yes. Black is one of eight washes, alongside Raw Indigo, Dark, Mid, Light, Grey, Bleached and Ecru (Bleached and Ecru are +$5).
Can I get skinny jeans with a raw hem or a button fly?
Yes. Every hem works on the Skinny: regular, raw and frayed, cuffed, or chain-stitch (+$10). A button fly is +$10, and contrast white thread looks sharp on black.
