The shape patterns are drawn for
Menswear sizing assumes shoulders a bit wider than the waist and hips a bit bigger than the waist. That's the trapezoid, and it's common: a 3D scan survey of more than 12,000 men in India found it among the three most frequent shapes (Tiwari and Anand).
So the question isn't which cut is "allowed". It's which look you want, and whether the small things fit: inseam, rise and the seat. Those are where even a well-matched size goes wrong.

Are you a trapezoid? (rules of thumb)
- Your chest is about 4–8 inches larger than your waist.
- Your hips are a couple of inches larger than your waist, not more.
- Your shoulders are a little broader than your hips, without a dramatic V.
- Off-the-rack shirts and jeans mostly fit, apart from length.
What to look for in jeans
| Feature | Why it works for a trapezoid | Where to find it |
|---|---|---|
| Leg shape | Any shape suits; pick by look and shoes | Skinny, Slim, Straight |
| Inseam | Your exact length, so there's no stacking or flapping at the hem | Every fit, up to 40" |
| Rise | Mid rise keeps the proportions you already have | Slim |
| Fabric | Try something new: Japanese-style Selvedge (+$40) or Summer Lightweight | Any fit |
| Details | Button fly, chain-stitch hem, contrast thread or a monogram inside the waistband | Any fit |
Three fits for a balanced build

Slim
The all-rounder: slim fit follows the leg with a gentle taper. Copy your best-fitting pair measured flat if you have one; it's the easiest route.

Straight
Straight leg for a classic, slightly looser look that works with boots. Good in raw selvedge that fades to the way you move.

Skinny
Skinny suits a balanced build in stretch denim. Choose Regular fit preference so you can still sit comfortably.

What made-to-measure adds for you
If sizes nearly fit, made-to-measure finishes the job: the inseam to the length you want, the thigh to your thigh, the rise you prefer. Then the fun part: denim, wash, thread and hem. Once the first pair is right, reorders use the same pattern.
From your numbers to your door
Choose a style above and add your measurements in the step-by-step builder: about 5 minutes (how to measure). A pattern maker checks them within 1 working day, then your pair is made in our own workshop in 10–15 working days and covered by the Fit Guarantee: a free remake of your first pair in each fit.

Questions and answers
What jeans suit a trapezoid body shape?
Nearly all of them. Slim, straight and skinny are the strongest choices; pick by the look and the shoes you wear most.
What does a trapezoid body shape look like in men?
Shoulders a little broader than the waist and hips, with balanced proportions and a medium build.
Is it worth getting made-to-measure jeans if sizes mostly fit me?
If the only issue is length or a loose seat, made-to-measure fixes both, and you get to choose denim and details. The price is the same as any other size.
Can I avoid any fits?
None strictly, but very baggy cuts add fabric a balanced build doesn't need. Relaxed is fine for comfort; Straight is usually enough.
