Jeans for a Rhomboid Build: Strong From Top to Bottom

A rhomboid build is strong all over: broad shoulders and ribcage, a waist that's narrower than both, and muscular hips and legs. That combination beats most size charts at the seat and thigh. Athletic Taper, Straight and Relaxed handle it, cut to your thigh as well as your waist.

Men's Jeans for a Rhomboid Body Shape: Straight jeans worn on a model

Rhomboid, trapezoid, inverted triangle: which is it?

Style guides use "rhomboid" for different things: some treat it as another name for the trapezoid, others merge it with the rectangle. We use it for the strong, compact build: a wide upper body and a narrower waist like an inverted triangle, but with powerful hips and legs as well.

That last part is what changes the jeans. An inverted triangle can wear a slim leg; a rhomboid needs real room in the seat and thigh, with a waist that still fits.

Signs you're a rhomboid (rules of thumb)

  1. Your chest is clearly larger than your waist, often by 8 inches or more.
  2. Your hips are also a few inches larger than your waist, and your thighs are muscular.
  3. Your shoulders are the widest point, but your lower half is solid too.
  4. Jeans that fit your thighs gap at the back of the waist; jeans that fit your waist won't go over your quads.

What made-to-measure fixes

Shop jeans make you choose: the waist or the thighs. We take waist, hips, thigh and inseam as their own numbers and add ease for the fit and fabric you pick. If your thighs are the main issue, our guide to jeans for big thighs goes further.

When not to choose

From your numbers to your door

Choose a style above and add your measurements in the step-by-step builder: about 5 minutes (how to measure). A pattern maker checks them within 1 working day, then your pair is made in our own workshop in 10–15 working days and covered by the Fit Guarantee: a free remake of your first pair in each fit.

Questions and answers

What jeans suit a rhomboid body shape?

Athletic Taper first, then Straight or Relaxed. Look for room in the seat and thigh with a waist cut to your own measurement, and stretch denim if you train.

Is rhomboid the same as trapezoid?

Some guides use the words interchangeably. We use rhomboid for a build that's strong in the legs as well as the upper body, and trapezoid for a medium, balanced build.

Why do jeans that fit my thighs gap at the waist?

Sizes are graded from one pattern, so the thigh only grows when the waist does. A muscular build breaks that link; cutting each from its own measurement fixes it.

Will stretch jeans lose their shape?

Stretch denim relaxes a little with wear; we allow for it in the ease. If you prefer the jeans to hold firm, Classic Rigid is 100% cotton.
