Girls' Jeans Made to Fit Her Exactly

Girls' jeans cut to her waist, hips and inseam as three separate numbers, so they don't gap at the back when she sits or stop above her ankles after a growth spurt. Pick Slim, Regular, Husky or Pull-On in soft stretch denim, then let her choose the wash and the name inside. $79, any size.

Why girls' jeans gap at the back waist

Girls' sizes are graded on one assumed waist-to-hip ratio. If her hips need a 10 and her waist is an 8, the waistband stands away from her back the moment she sits down, and the inner elastic gathers it into a lumpy ridge. Buy for the waist instead and the hips pinch.

We take her waist and her hips as two separate numbers and cut to both. Then choose the waistband: a standard one cut to her waist for a clean finish, or the adjustable button-elastic band if she's growing fast and you want some slack to let out later.

Hip or waist: the number that matters for each fit

          FitFeels likeMeasure carefully
SlimClose through the hip and legWaist and hips both, since that's where a slim cut gaps or pinches. More on slim jeans for slender girls.
RegularRoom to move, an easy everyday legWaist first, then inseam.
HuskyFuller through the seat and thighHips: our husky and plus fit for girls is cut to her hip and her length.
Pull-OnElastic waist, no flyHips, because the waistband has to slide over them. See pull-on, no-button jeans.

Measure hips around the widest point with the tape level. Our measuring guide shows where.

          For tall girls

Tall girls usually run out of leg long before they run out of waist, so store jeans turn into cropped jeans by accident. Her inseam is its own measurement here, crotch to ankle bone, so the length is hers rather than the length that comes with her waist size.

If she likes her jeans a touch longer than the ankle bone, say so in the notes for your tailor. Growing upwards fast? The grow-room hem (+$8) keeps 1.5 inches folded inside to let down later.

          1. Waist Where their jeans usually sit.

We check your numbers before we cut

Measure the waist where their jeans sit, the hips, and the inseam from crotch to ankle bone. Or measure their best-fitting pair laid flat.

Within 1 working day a pattern maker compares every measurement with the others, and emails you before cutting if anything looks unusual.

          Questions and answers

Her jeans gap at the back of the waist. Will made-to-measure fix it?

Usually, yes. The gap comes from a hip size and a waist size that don't match hers; we cut to both, and an adjustable waistband takes up slack as she grows.

My daughter is tall. Can her jeans be longer without being bigger?

Yes. Inseam is measured and cut separately from the waist, so she gets the length without a wider waistband.

Which fit should I choose for my daughter?

Slim for a close fit, Regular for room to move, Husky for more room in the seat and thigh, and Pull-On if she'd rather have no buttons at all.

Do you make flare or wide-leg jeans for girls?

Not at the moment. The kids' range is Slim, Regular, Husky and Pull-On, each cut to her measurements.

Which fabric is softest for girls' jeans?

Soft Stretch, a 10 oz denim with 2% elastane. Classic Rigid (12 oz) starts firmer and softens as it's washed and worn.
