Why maternity jeans fit better made to measure

Store maternity jeans come in pre-pregnancy sizes, so they assume your hips, thighs and length match one size chart. They usually don't, and pregnancy changes the waist first. A pair cut from your current hips, thigh and inseam fits the parts that matter, while the stretch panel takes care of the bump.

Write anything else that matters in the notes for your tailor, such as how far along you are or where you like the panel to sit, and a pattern maker reads it before cutting.

Measuring for maternity jeans

  1. Measure at your current stage, standing relaxed, with a soft tape.
  2. Hips: around the fullest part of your seat, feet together.
  3. Thigh: around the fullest part of one thigh, just below the crotch.
  4. Inseam: from the crotch down the inside leg to where you want the hem, in your usual shoes.
  5. Add your height and weight, and how far along you are in the notes for your tailor.
  6. Full method: our measuring guide.

We check your numbers before we cut

Copy your best-fitting jeans laid flat (easiest) or measure yourself with a soft tape. Height and weight are optional, as a cross-check.

Within 1 working day a pattern maker compares every measurement with the others and with your height and weight, and emails you before cutting if anything looks unusual.

When should I order maternity jeans?

When your usual jeans stop fitting comfortably at the waist. Measure at that stage and allow about three to five weeks for making and delivery.

Over-the-bump or under-the-bump: which is better?

It's personal. Over-the-bump covers and holds the bump and stays up easily; under-the-bump sits lower and feels more like regular jeans.

Do maternity jeans cost more?

The Maternity style is $119 in every size, with the same fabric and wash choices as our other women's styles.

Is the Maternity style covered by the Fit Guarantee?

Can I choose the leg shape?

The Maternity style has a straight leg. Tell us in the notes for your tailor if you'd like it a little slimmer or roomier, and we'll confirm before cutting.
